We are a dedicated group of American Kennel Club certified therapy dogs and their handlers, trained to provide comfort and emotional support throughout our community.

Join Canines Who Care!

Our Training Process

Attend all the training classes (approximately 4 or 5 one hour long classes)

Pass the AKC Canine Good Citizen Test

Visit Canines Who Care sites under supervision of a current Canines Who Care Team until approved.

Dog Eligibility

Meet all Canines Who Care program requirements

Be approved through the program’s evaluation process

Maintain current veterinary compliance

Handler Eligibility

Participation is limited to individuals who meet the following eligibility criteria.

Prospective Canines Who Care therapy should have a solid foundation in basic skills and a strong, trusting bond with their handler.

Be at least eighteen (18) years of age.

Have no criminal history, must not be listed on any sex offender registry.

Pass an annual background check including sexual and molestation convictions and registries.

Demonstrate the ability to safely and responsibly handle their dog.

Exhibit professional conduct and sound judgment in public settings.

Agree to follow all Canines Who Care policies and procedures.

Complete all required forms and documentation.

Maintain current contact information with program leadership.

Join us for a candidate meet & greet where we can meet you and your dog and review the Canine Good Citizen Test items and talk!
